RE: LSA Document #15-448 adds 844 IAC 17 to establish requirements for certification of certified direct entry midwives, standards of competent practice for certified direct entry midwives, peer review procedures for certified direct entry midwives, continuing education requirements for certified direct entry midwives, and physician-certified direct entry midwife collaboration requirements.

On behalf of the Indiana Professional Licensing Agency and the Medical Licensing Board, I am submitting this notice to the Publisher of the Indiana Register and Indiana Administrative Code in compliance with IC 4-22-2-25, which requires that a notice be sent to the Publisher if a rule will not be approved or deemed approved by the Governor within one year of publication of the Notice of Intent to Adopt a Rule. This notice is submitted to the Publisher before the two hundred fiftieth day following the publication of the Notice of Intent to Adopt a Rule.

The Notice of Intent to Adopt a Rule was published in the Indiana Register on December 23, 2015 (DIN: 20151223-IR-844150448NIA).

Due to further review requested by the Governor's office, the Board may not be able to complete the rulemaking process by December 23, 2016. The Board hopes to have a final rule adopted no later than September 28, 2017. Approval or deemed approval by the Governor is expected no later than December 23, 2017.

This notice is being submitted in a timely manner. August 26, 2016, is the two hundred forty-seventh day after publication of the Notice of Intent to Adopt a Rule.
