Section 312IAC25-6-72. Underground mining; casing and sealing exposed underground openings; general requirements

Each drilled hole, shaft, well, or other exposed underground opening shall be cased, sealed, or managed to:
(1) prevent acid or toxic water drainage from entering ground or surface waters; and
(2) minimize disturbance to the prevailing hydrologic balance.
Each drill hole or well that is uncovered or exposed by mining activities within the permit area shall be sealed in a manner to prevent exposure by any mining activity. Use of a drilled hole, shaft, or monitoring well as a water well must meet section 87 of this rule. This section does not apply to holes drilled and used for blasting in the area affected by surface operations.
