    Notice of Intent to Adopt a Rule

    Under IC 4-22-2-23, the Indiana State Department of Health intends to adopt a rule concerning the following:

    OVERVIEW: Amends 410 IAC 3-3 to add and update current definitions, add requirements for designated laboratories to furnish filter paper kits for collection of newborn screening specimens to collection sources and designate other payors for equipment and supplies, add screening requirements for additional conditions and modifications to specimen collection by physicians and hospitals, update screening requirements and reporting requirements by designated laboratories, update requirements for hospitals, birthing centers, midwives, and physicians providing home birth services to maintain a screening log, perform follow-ups, and submit a monthly report to the Indiana State Department of Health, update procedures for follow-up of positive screening results, and update fee schedules for repeat screenings. Adds rules to 410 IAC 3-3 to provide for appropriate newborn hearing screenings, establish newborn hearing screening responsibilities and hearing screening protocols, and establish requirements for newborn hearing screening follow-up and reports. Effective 30 days after filing with the Publisher. Questions or written comments concerning the proposed rule may be directed to the Small Business Regulatory Coordinator for this rule.
