    Notice of Public Hearing

    Under IC 4-22-2-24, notice is hereby given that on October 1, 2010, at 9:30 a.m., at the Indiana Government Center South, 402 West Washington Street, Room W064, Indianapolis, Indiana, the State Board of Dentistry will hold a public hearing to amend 828 IAC 0.5-1 concerning definitions of "direct supervision" and "prescriptive supervision", definitions concerning dental assistants, definitions related to the administration of local anesthesia by dental hygienists, and definitions related to coronal polishing and application of caries prevention agents, to amend 828 IAC 0.5-2-4 to establish the fees for the application and renewal of a dental anesthetics permit for dental hygienists, to amend 828 IAC 1-1 concerning professional conduct and competency of dentists, the supervision of dental hygienists and dental assistants, and responsibility for supervision, to amend 828 IAC 1-2 concerning professional conduct and competency of dental hygienists, the practice of dental hygiene, the direct supervision of and prescriptive supervision granted to dental hygienists, and the locations for the practice of dental hygiene, and to add 828 IAC 3-2 establishing education and training requirements, application requirements, and renewal requirements for the issuance and renewal of a dental hygiene anesthetic permit, and the administration of local anesthetic and 828 IAC 6 to establish requirements for coronal polishing by dental assistants, application of caries prevention agents by dental assistants, and supervision of dental assistants.
    The State Board of Dentistry has the authority to promulgate rules in accordance with IC 4-22-2 to enforce and administer IC 25-13-1-5 and IC 25-14-1-13 to adopt rules consistent with this chapter and to adopt and enforce rules for the administration and enforcement of this article. The proposed rule adds definitions, education and training, and application and renewal requirements for a dental hygienist to administer dental anesthetics in accordance with IC 25-13-1-10.6. The proposed rule adds definitions, education and training for coronal polishing and the application of caries prevention agents, and supervision requirements for dental assistants in accordance with IC 25-14-1-23(g) and IC 25-14-1-23(h).
    Copies of these rules are now on file at the Indiana Government Center South, 402 West Washington Street, Room W072 and Legislative Services Agency, Indiana Government Center North, 100 North Senate Avenue, Room N201, Indianapolis, Indiana and are open for public inspection.
