Interpretation by the Fire Prevention and Building Safety Commission

Title: Interpretation of 675 IAC 19-4, 2010 Indiana Energy Conservation Code, Section 5.7.1 and 5.7.2

Date: February 2, 2016

Purpose and Background: The purpose of this nonrule policy is to clarify that variances are not required for projects that comply with the 2009 International Energy Conservation Code (2009 IECC) when using the compliance alternatives provided in 675 IAC 19-4, Section 5.7.1 and 5.7.2. The 2009 IECC incorporates ASHRAE 90.1-2007 by reference.

Interpretation: The Commission hereby interprets compliance with the 2009 International Energy Code to be deemed as compliance with the Indiana Energy Conservation Code. When using Comcheck and other software programs to demonstrate compliance, either ASHRAE 90.1-2007 or 2009 IECC may be used as the model code in such software programs.
