Section 680IAC2-8-10. Water columns, gage cocks, and gage glasses

  •    (a) As set forth in section 7(d) of this rule, no outlet connections shall be placed on the piping that connects the water column to the boiler. Exceptions are as follows:

    (1) Damper regulator.

    (2) Feed water regulator.

    (3) Low water fuel cut-out.

    (4) Drains.

    (5) Gages.

    (6) Such apparatus that does not permit the escape of an appreciable amount of steam or water.

    The water column shall be provided with a valved drain of at least three-fourths (¾) inch pipe size.

      (b) Each boiler shall have three (3) or more gage cocks, located within the range of the visible length of the water glass, except when such boiler has two (2) water glasses with independent connections to the boiler, located on the same horizontal line and not less than two (2) feet apart.

      (c) For all installations where the water gage glass or glasses are more than thirty (30) feet from the boiler operating floor, water level indicating or recording gages shall be installed in such a manner that they are clearly visible from the operating floor.
