  •    Amend Section R602.7, Headers, by adding a section to read as follows: Section R602.7.3, Location. Headers less than 2 inches (51 mm) in width or built up of members less than 2 inches (51 mm) in width that span more than 8 feet (2,438 mm) or headers less than 4 inches (102 mm) in width or built up of members less than 4 inches (102 mm) in width that span more than 16 feet (4,877 mm) shall be located at the top of the wall immediately below the top plate.

    Exception: When a minimum of 3/8 inch (10 mm) structural wood sheathing is applied from the bottom of the header to the top of the wall and all joints on structural members are fastened in accordance with TABLE R602.3(1) or TABLE R602.3(2).
