  •   5. Change "Exception", in R317.1, to "Exceptions", number the exception as 1, and add a second exception to read as follows: 2. Wall assemblies need not extend through attic spaces of two-family dwelling structures under single ownership when the ceiling is protected by not less than 5/8-inch Type X gypsum board and an attic draft stop constructed as specified in R502.12.1 is provided above and along the wall assembly separating the dwellings. The structural wall framing supporting the ceiling shall also be protected by not less than 1/2-inch gypsum board or equivalent on the interior surface.
