Section 140IAC9-2-15.5. Hull identification number (HIN)

  •   5. (a) In addition to IC 9-31-2-8 [IC 9-31-2 was repealed by P.L.198-2016, SECTION 617, effective July 1, 2016.], the bureau shall assign a HIN when the following conditions exist upon the completion of an application for a title:

    (1) The number placed on a watercraft does not comply with the definition of a HIN under 140 IAC 9-1-1.

    (2) The same HIN is placed on another watercraft that is titled or registered in Indiana.

      (b) To obtain a new HIN, the applicant must include with the HIN application the information required by IC 9-31-2-8 [IC 9-31-2 was repealed by P.L.198-2016, SECTION 617, effective July 1, 2016.] and a recent and accurate photograph of the watercraft.

      (c) The HIN assigned by the bureau must be engraved or embossed on the exterior of the starboard (right) transom of the watercraft within five (5) days of the owner receiving the HIN.
